Up to $40,000 in grant funding supporting WA innovators

The WA Innovation Booster Grants (IBG) are offering eligible applicants up to $40,000 on a cash co-contribution basis. Applicants must provide a cash co-contribution of at least 20% of total eligible expenditure.

The IBG aims to support WA-based startups and small businesses commercialise innovative ideas or projects, with assistance provided to:

  • Develop or enhance products or services that are commercially ready, or to reach a commercially ready stage

  • Develop prototypes, processes or systems that might attract additional investment and customers; and/or

  • Address a technical problem that the business cannot solve themselves, or for which the solution is not readily avialbale

Funding can be used to support internal resources, or can be used to engage external third-party service providers. Third-party service providers must be independent and applications must include a declaration stating that they are independent had have no direct connection or relationship with the applicant entity.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a business registered in WA and hold a current ABN (Australian Business Number) or ACN (Australian Company Number)

  • Be developing an innovative project in Western Australia

  • Continue to be based in Western Australia in the next three years

  • Be a WA-based startup or small business employing between one and 25 people, including sole traders, private sector firms, partnerships and non-profit entities

  • Be solvent

  • Have financial capacity to contribute at least 20% of the requested project funding costs

Eligible expenditure includes:

  • Research and Development including technical development, compliance testing, PoC, product testing and validation, laboratory verification and certification

  • Product Development including engineering design work, prototype development, innovation design, and building an MVP

  • Technology Transfer and IP protection, legal advice and licensing

  • Commercialisation support services including innovation management and consulting, commercialisation strategies including marketing strategies which support market entry, and commercialisation feasibility studies
