Grants for E-waste collection, storage, reprocessing and recycling

The West Australian government are offering government grants up to $2 million, on a competitive basis, to support projects which collect, store reuse, reprocess or recycle E-waste.

The West Australian government will implement a statewide ban on E-waste disposal to landfill by 2024. To support the ban, government grants up to $2 million will be offered across two funding streams, so to help deal with E-waste.

For the purpose of this grant program, the following categories of E-waste are items with a plug, battery or cord and include:

  • Screens, IT and telecommunications

  • Lighting and lamps

  • List but bs including fluorescent light tubes

  • Large household equipment

  • Batteries including car batteries

  • Temperature exchange equipment

  • Medical devices

  • Photovoltaics

The two funding streams are:

Stream 1: Up to $250,000 for E-waste collection, storage and or reuse projects including:

  • Fixed or semi-permanent E-waste infrastructure for collection and storage

  • Equipment that assist with the reuse of E-waste

  • New or upgraded facilities to increase the capability and capacity to manage and store E-waste before reuse or onward processing

Stream 2: UP to $2 million for E-waste reprocessing infrastructure projects including:

  • Equipment purchase and installation

  • New or upgraded infrastructure for E-waste reprocessing or recycling

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be a

    • Business;

    • Local government;

    • Regional council; or

    • Registered charity - Not-for-Profit

  • Hold a current ABN and/or ACN

  • Have been operating for at least 12 months

  • Have satisfactory environmental, safety and financial compliance

  • Other eligibility criteria as listed in the guidelines (here)
