Grants up to $3 million for projects that will boost Australia’s cyber security workforce

The Australian Government have announced a second round of funding offering eligible applicants the opportunity to apply for a grant from $250,000 and up to $3 million on a 50:50 cash co-contribution basis.

The objectives of the Cyber Security Skills Partnership Innovation Fund are to:

  • increase diversity in the cyber security workforce

  • create new and innovative ways to improve the quality and quantity of cyber security professionals in Australia

  • improve collaboration between industry and the education sector to build the quality and availability of cyber security professionals in Australia

  • support industry and academia to attract, train and place cyber security talents into businesses

Each application must be a joint application with a lead eligible organisations, who is the main driver of the project, and at least one other project partner. A state, territory or local government cannot be the lead applicant but may be a project partner in a joint application.

Eligible applicants must have an ABN and be registered for the GST, and be one of the following:

  • an entity incorporated in Australia

  • an incorporated association

  • an incorporated not-for -profit organisation

Competitive applications are expected to include collaborations between the applicant and other bodies such as:

  • higher education and vocational education providers

  • secondary schools

  • local and state governments

  • businesses

The intended outcomes of the Cyber Security Skills Partnership Innovation fund are:

  • increased diversity of the cyber security workforce including lifting the participation of women, indigenous Australians, regional and remote based workers, and neuro-diverse individuals

  • deliver a pipeline of highly skilled cyber security professionals to meet the current and future need of Australia’s digital economy

  • enhance Australia’s sovereign cyber security capability to underpin our growing digital economy and the safety of all Australians
