Closing Soon: Grant funding for transformational West Australian green energy projects

The Lower Carbon Grants (LCG) - Gorgon Fund program will fund transformational innovations and projects that support practical and effective decarbonisation in Western Australia.

The LCG is part of a $40 million funding agreement between the WA Government and the Chevron-operated Gorgon Project to provide funding for both the grant program and the creation of a Green Tech Hub ito support and grow local green tech business in Western Australia..

The program will provide funding, on a minimum 50:50 cash co-contribution basis, for large, transformational research and innovation activity across industries, technology platforms and regions that support practical and effective decarbonisation solutions.

Projects must primarily take place in Western Australia, and significantly reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions or test, demonstrate and deploy technologies that support lower carbon projects.

Eligible costs may include:

  • Capital equpment costs for carbon abatement or sequestration

  • Design, professional services, transport, installation, commissioning, laboratory testing, field sampling, related to the attainment of a project objective or milestone

  • Capital / asset investment including new equipment / technology

  • Salaries / wages supporting specific project activities

Applicant eligibility includes:

  • Must be an Australian incorporated entity

  • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN)

  • Management team must be fit and proper persons

  • Applicant must not be owned or subject to control by, any country or person that is subject to economic sanctions or trade restrictions imposed by the United Nations Security Council, Australian, United Kingdom, Japanese, or United States Government

  • The Lower Carbon Project will take place primarily in Western Australia or have some other substantive link to Western Australia

  • Must be a legal and solvent entity, or partnered with a legal and solvent entity, with a proven trading history for the past three financial years

  • Project must be legal in Western Australia and investment ready

  • Other criteria apply

Applicants will be required to attach several mandatory documents and evidence to the application as outlined in the program guidelines (here).
