Grant funding to establish long-rotation plantation forests

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) are accepting applications from eligible entities for grant funding to establish long-rotation softwood and hardwood plantation forests in Australia.

The funding program aims to expand Australia’s domestic timber supply, principally construction and manufacturing timber resources, contribute to Australia’s carbon emission reduction targets through carbon sequestration, and support regional communities through the retention and creation of jobs.

The following entity types are eligible to apply:

  • Company

  • Corporate State or Territory Entity

  • Incorporated Association

  • Indigenous Corporation

  • Sole Trader

  • Cooperative

  • Partnership

A program will provide funding of $2,000 (GST exclusive) per 1 hectare of new long-rotation plantation forest established.

A minimum of 50:50 co-contribution is required with grants available from $40,000, with no upper grant limit.

Funding is available across multiple rounds and will be assessed in batches:

  • Batch 1 opens on 21 June 2023 and closes on 15 August 2023

  • Batch 2 opens on 16 August 2023 and closes on 25 October 2023

  • Batch 3 opens on 26 October and closes on 24 January 2023
