Government Grant funding up to $50 million for renewable energy technologies development

The Australian Government Advancing Renewables Program offers grant funding, on a matching funding basis, of between $100,000 and $50 million to undertake renewable energy technology projects that increase the supply of, or improve the competitiveness of, renewable energy in Australia.

Projects must address one of the ARENA investment focus areas to:

  1. Optimise the transition to renewable electricity

  2. Commercialise clean hydrogen

  3. Support the transition to low emissions metals

ARENA is seeking to fund projects and activities that assist the Government to accelerate priority low emissions technologies identified in the Technology Investment Roadmap - First Low Emissions Technology Statement - 2020 (weblink) including:

  • clean hydrogen

  • energy storage

  • low carbon materials (steel and aluminium)

  • carbon capture and storage

  • soil carbon

Successful projects should contribute to one or more of the program outcomes:

  • reduction in the cost of renewable technology

  • increase in the value delivered by renewable energy

  • improvement in technology readiness and commercial readiness of renewable energy

  • reductin in or removal of barriers to renewable energy uptake

  • increase in skills, capacity and knowledge relevant to renewable energy

Eligible applicants must:

  • Have an Australian Business Number (ABN)

  • Be an Australian incorporated entity (unless applying for Desktop Studies and Analysis)
