Up to $5 million grant funding to address critical technology challenges

The Federal Government are inviting eligible organisations to apply for grant funding up to $5 million, on a co-contribution basis, to develop quantum technology solution or a component(s), that may involve other advanced technologies such as AI and robotics, that contribute to one of the four challenges of national significance.

The Challenges are:

Challenge 1: Improve biosecurity outcomes by enhancing the detection of invasive pests or diseases, and cargo inspection processes.

Challenge 2: Improve life expectancy, health outcomes and access to health technology for First Nations peoples.

Challenge 3: Optimise transport routes, logistics and supply chain operations.

Challenge 4: Optimise the performance, sustainability and security of energy networks.

The funding is offered over two stages including:

Stage 1 - Feasibility: Funding to support testing and demonstration of the technical viability of your proposed solution or component(s) of a solution with technologies commencing at TRL 4 to achieve a minimum of TRL 5. Grants be tween $100,000 and $500,000, covering up to 100% of eligible expenditure, over a maximum of 6 months.

Stage 2 - Demonstrator: Applicants that successfully complete a Stage 1 Feasibility project will be invited to submit an application for Stage 2 Demonstrator funding so support production of working prototypes at scale to validate and demonstrate the technology through trials in a relevant operational environment. Grants between $1 million and $5 million to cover up to 80% of eligible expenditure, over a maximum of 15 months.

Joint

Eligibility: Applications must be made on behalf of a joint (consortia) collaboration with an eleiiglbe lead applicant who will drive the project. Eligible lead applicants must:

Have an Australian Business Number (ABN)

  • Be registered for GST

  • Be an Australian incorporated entity

Joint / Consortia Eligibility: Consortia must have a minimum of two project participants, inclusive of the lead applicant including at least:

  • One Australian industry-based partner; and

  • One Australian research organisation

Consortia which include international organisations are welcome to apply and applicants are encouraged to consider inclusion of a First Nations organisation as a project partner.

Opening date: Wednesday 15th January 2025, 10AM (AEDT)

Closing date: Wednesday 26th February 2025, 5PM (AEDT)
