Up to $200,000 to support organic waste processors in WA

The West Australian Government are offering grants up to $200,000 to help existing organics handling and processing operators to fast-track a transition to better practice aligned with the WA Guideline: Better practice organics recycling.

The objective of the grant program is to deliver better practice operations to support improved product quality, which in turn will support markets for recycled organics.

Project bus demonstrate they meet one or more of the following objectives:

  • Address priorities and environmental performance objectives outlined by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER)

  • Support a higher benchmark of environmental management, bond the existing regulatory controls and outcomes

  • Support ongoing outcomes of improved protection of the environment, public health and/or amenity beyond the life of the funding

Eligible applicants must hold a lice oor works approval for food organics and garden organics (FOGO) handling and processing at a prescribed premises regulated under the following categories:

  • Category 61A/62

  • Category 67A

Applications for prescribed premises handling and processing of other organic feedstocks such as garden organics only, and regulated under the above categories will also be eligible.

Funding can be used for infrastructure such as:

  • air extraction systems or aeration systems

  • odour treatment systems (e.g. bio filters)

  • enclosures (e.g. sheds)

  • hardstands

  • leachate and storm water management infrastructure

  • relevant monitoring equipment

  • other equipment/infrastructure that addresses focus priority aspects

Applications must be submitted by 12pm (WST) on Monday 6th March 2023.
