Funding for the provision of National Tax Clinics

Following on from a successful pilot Tax Clinic at Curtin University, the Australian Government are offering up to $300,000 over three years ($100,000 per annum) to Australian Universities or associated entities of Australian Universities to operate Tax Clinics.

Successful applicants will deliver an independent service where unrepresented taxpayers can seek free tax assistance from students under the supervision of a qualified tax professional. The service is designed to support taxpayers who are unable to use a tax practitioner due to economic, social or personal factors.

The program desired outcomes are:

  • to provide pro-bono advice, guidance and assistance on tax matters

  • represent clients on a pro bono basis in dealings with the ATO

  • create education activities in each Tax Clinic to improve understanding of the tax system

  • provide advocacy facilities to enable wider involvement in highlighting and reducing issues and problems in the tax system

  • staff Tax Clinics with students undertaking relevant studies including ta, accounting, law or dispute resolution

Applications will close at 11pm (ACT local time) on 21 June 2021 - Click here to apply
