Australian Medical Research Grant Funding up to $10 million

The Australian Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) has opened the following programs to application for funding.

Quality, Safety and Effectiveness of Medicine use and Medicine Intervention by Pharmacists grant: Applicants can apply for up to $1.5 million in grant funding. The objectives of this program is to provide grants to Australian medical research and/or innovation projects that align with one of the four funding streams and which improve the health and wellbeing of Australia’s.

The four funding streams are:

  1. Assess the feasibility of pharmacogenomic interventions by community pharmacists designed to optimise medication prescription and use.

  2. Assess the feasibility of pharmacogenomic interventions to optimise the prescription and use of medicines for treating patients with cancer.

  3. Implement, validate, and cost approaches that involve community and hospital pharmacists collaborating to improve medication management and transition into the community.

  4. Implement, validate, and cost approaches for pharmacist interventions in residential aged care using objective patient focused indicators.

National Critical Research Infrastructure grant: Applicants can apply for up to $3 million under Stream 1, and 2, or up to $10 million under Stream 3, to fund research infrastructure innovation programs which aim to improve health outcomes by enhancing Australia’s research infrastructure, addressing areas of unmet need in the research sector and utilising investment through greater collaboration with industry, government and the medical sector.

The three funding streams are:

  1. Address an area of unmet need by promoting the development and implementation of new research methodologies or applications including ‘omics’-led approaches and enhanced infrastructure linkage strategies.

  2. Develop and translate into practice digital therapeutics; artificial intelligence enabled health interventions and technologies; and/or applications or other software for use in clinical practice.

  3. Utilise co-investment with the research sector, state and territory governments and industry in significant critical research infrastructure.
