Defence industry grants up to $1.5 million

Several grant funding opportunities are available to support Australian businesses and to help them grow their businesses to meet Defence capability needs and increase their participation in Australian and global Defence industry supply chains.

Currently available Defence industry grant programs include:

Skilling Australia’s Defence Industry: UP to $500,000 available to eligible businesses or Defence Industry Associations, for up to 100% of the project costs, to support up-skilling and training opportunities to build skills capacity and capability to meet current or future Defence needs. Open on an ongoing basis.

Sovereign Industrial Capability Priority Grant: Grant funding between $50,000 and $1 million, on a 50:50 co-contribution basis is avialbale to support eligible businesses to build the industrial capabilities that are aligned with the Defence Sovereign Industrial Capability Priorities. Project activities can include buying, leasing, construction, installing or commissioning capital equipment including specialist cyber security software; design, engineering and commissioning activities; workforce training and accreditation. Open on an ongoing basis.

Defence Global Competitiveness Grant: Grants between $15,000 and $1.5 million are available to eligible businesses, on a 50:50 co-contribution basis, to support investment in projects that build defence export capability to support a stronger, more sustainable and globally competitive Australian Defence industry. Applications are assessed in batches with the application submission dates published here.

Joint Strike Fighter Industry Production and Modernisation: Grant funding between $150,000 anda $1.5 million available for eligible businesses, on a 50":50 co-contribution basis. Teh funding is aimed at teh development of new or improved capabilities that will enable applicants to win work in the production and modernisation phases of the Joint Strike Fighter Program. This program is open on an ongoing basis until 30 June 2028.

US-Australia International Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative: Eligible higher education providers or Australian universities can apply for up to $1 million in grant funding to support research on a designated, MURI approved topic. The program operates in conjunction with the United States Department of Defense’s MURI and encourages partnerships between Australian and US-based universities. Applications are currently being accepted.
