Government Grants up to $50 million for emissions reductions

The Powering the Regions Fund - Safeguard Transformation Stream (Round 1) is inviting eligible trade exposed facility applicants to apply for up to $50 million in grant funding, on a 50:50 co-contribution basis, to reduce their emissions and help Australia meet its emissions reduction targets.

This grant is aimed at owners or operators of a trade-exposed Safeguard Mechanism Facility that is not a new or expanded coal or gas production facility.

The objectives of the grant program are to:

  • Support trade-exposed facilities covered by the Safeguard Mechanism to reduce their emissions and contribute to meeting Australia’s emissions reduction targets.

  • Reduce the risk of carbon leakage.

  • Provide skills development to existing industrial workforce in new equipment or processes that contribute to the reduction of Scope 1 emissions.

The program allows applicants to partner with one or more other organisations that also meet the eligibility criteria, with a lead applicant who will sign the grant agreement and take responsibility to ensure that the group follow the rules in the grant agreement.

Applications can be submitted for assessment in batches, up to 5pm (AEDT) Friday 1 November 2024.
